Glyn Jones 5th Dan (Ryusyokai Goju Ryu Karate, Okinawa, Japan.) 5th Dan (Karate, Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, Kyoto, Japan.) 2nd Dan (Japanese Ju Jutsu)
|
Glyn Jones is the Ryusyokai Okinawa Karate Dojo U.K. Sensei, (Teacher & Senior
Instructor). He has been involved in the Martial Arts for most parts of his life. Starting his
training at the age of 7 years under tutelage of his father, Roy Jones. This was taking place
in the mid seventies in the Art of Japanese Judo / Ju Jutsu. A series of fortunate local
meetings and events also allowed Glyn to be accepted as one of the few students of Bill
Webb Bowen. A no nonsense Jutsuka of the old school who had much combat experience
behind him, including the battle for Arnheim.
At the age of 12 years in 1981, upon his fathers advice, Glyn also began studying Karate in
the Japanese based style of Shotokan under the watchful eyes of Cyril Cummins Sensei.
Glyn has also travelled extensively around the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and Okinawa
in search of quality training and teachings in the Martial Arts. Whilst also being the author to
many published articles in martial arts magazines. Of which during 2006 he was featured on
the cover of the UK's leading Traditional Karate Magazine.
He achieved both his 4th and 5th Dan certifications directly from the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai
Honbu Dojo in Kyoto, Japan. Together with receiving his 5th Dan in Okinawan Goju Ryu
Karate at the Ryusyokai Honbu Dojo in Tomigusuku, Okinawa, from his teacher Shigetoshi
Senaha Sensei 9th Dan. Together with the title of Shibu Cho.
For well over a decade Glyn Jones was also wisely guided as he trained personally under the
direction of Sensei Brian Hinchliffe, a 7th Dan with the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai in the Art of
Japanese Goju Ryu Karate. This excellent base enabled Glyn to receive direct personal
guidance from teachers in Okinawa. Therefore going on to achieve a much deeper and inner
understanding of many aspects of Okinawan Karate training, which is always the case with
first hand exposure.
To date Glyn Sensei is presently being wisely advised and guided directly in the Arts of
Okinawa Karate, Kobu Jutsu, and elements of Ti by the teachings of Shigetoshi Senaha
Sensei 9th Dan Hanshi, the former Dojo Sempai of Meitoku Yagi Sensei.
Old style True Okinawan Karate is an Art Glyn continues to practise, study, research,
and teach at the highest levels and in all areas. Whilst also being deeply honoured to receive
invitations to both train and teach Okinawan Karate to other Karate Dojo's in the U.K.and
abroad.
.
Relocating home a few years later meant an imminent change in Karate Dojo and directions. This however gave Glyn the opportunity to experience a training
variety of different Karate Dojos, Styles and Teachers. Of which for a number of years Glyn was training in both the Shotokan & Goju Ryu styles of Karate.
One of his most influential Teachers over a number of years was without question Slater Williams Sensei, a 6th Dan under Taiji Kase Sensei. Sensei Williams
is a Karate teacher that Glyn has nothing but the highest respect and regard for, someone that Glyn regularly speaks of as a formidable exponent of Karate.
It was also during this time that Glyn believes he first experienced what he now concludes to be elements of Advanced Okinawan Karate & Ti training.
